Products like hand‑crafted rock wool boards are typically used in industrial applications; most of us have neither seen nor heard of them, and they’re not commonly encountered in everyday life. Nevertheless, they play an indispensable role in the industrial sector. When using them, the first step is to gain a clear understanding of their key characteristics—let’s explore these together.
The key feature of handcrafted rock wool boards is their fire resistance. Made from natural volcanic rock, they are a non-combustible building material and an effective fire‑proofing solution. Their primary fire‑resistance rating is A1, the highest level, which effectively prevents the spread of flames. Moreover, their dimensions remain highly stable; they neither stretch, shrink nor deform during a fire. They also exhibit exceptional high‑temperature resistance, with a melting point exceeding 1,000°C. In the event of a fire, they produce no smoke or burning droplets and do not release harmful substances or gases into the environment.
Another key feature of handcrafted rock wool boards is their excellent thermal insulation. The exterior wall rock wool boards boast fine, resilient fibers and a low slag ball content, resulting in a low thermal conductivity and superior heat‑insulating performance. These boards also provide sound absorption and noise reduction; rock wool is an ideal acoustic material, with its dense network of slender fibers creating a porous structure that makes it highly effective at absorbing sound and mitigating noise. Hydrophobic rock wool products achieve a water repellency rate of up to 99.9%, exhibit very low water absorption, and are free from capillary penetration.
Another key feature of hand‑crafted rock wool boards is their excellent moisture resistance: in environments with relatively high relative humidity, their moisture absorption rate remains below 0.2%, and during testing, the mass‑based moisture uptake stays under 0.3%. Rock wool is non‑corrosive and chemically stable, with a pH of 7–8—neutral to slightly alkaline—making it safe for use on carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other metals. It is also safe and environmentally friendly; laboratory tests confirm that these boards contain no asbestos, CFCs, HFCs, HCFCs, or other substances harmful to the environment, and they neither corrode nor foster the growth of mold or bacteria.
