Today, many people still lack a basic understanding of hand‑crafted rock wool boards. As a manufacturer, it’s our responsibility to provide a brief overview. In fact, this type of hand‑crafted rock wool board is widely used in both industrial and medical applications. It features a unique structure, high resistance to external pressure, and excellent impact resistance. Therefore, before using it, it’s essential to familiarize yourself with its proper application methods to avoid potential issues during operation.
Handcrafted rock wool boards, also known as rock wool insulation and decorative panels, are inorganic fiberboards manufactured by melting basalt at high temperatures. First successfully tested in June 1981, they represent a new type of material offering thermal insulation, flame retardancy, and sound absorption. These handcrafted rock wool boards are artificial inorganic fibers produced through high‑temperature melting, characterized by their light weight, low thermal conductivity, heat absorption, and non‑combustibility.
Handcrafted rock wool boards are an exterior wall insulation material. While organic insulation materials, which account for 90% of the market share, remain stagnant and adopt a wait-and-see approach, inorganic rock wool—classified as Class A fire‑resistant exterior insulation—has seized promising market opportunities. After the rock wool boards have been adhered, the plastered surface should be finished, and the entire surface must be thoroughly scraped clean using a stainless steel scraper.
For hand‑applied rock wool boards, either strip‑bonding or spot‑bonding methods are recommended, with a bonding area of no less than 50%. After applying the adhesive to the rock wool board, first affix the lower edge of the insulation board to the substrate. The rock wool boards should be laid horizontally from bottom to top; when installed on their side, they must be anchored. The deviation of hand‑applied rock wool boards shall not exceed 2 mm. If the joint width is 2 mm, it shall be filled with insulating material. Adjacent board surfaces shall be flush, and the height difference between boards shall not exceed 1.5 mm.
When installing hand‑crafted rock wool boards, do not proceed with exterior wall insulation if the substrate temperature or ambient conditions fall below 5°C. Work is prohibited in winds of Force 5 or higher, as well as during rainy or snowy weather. During and after installation, implement effective measures to prevent rainwater erosion and direct sunlight exposure, and promptly apply the protective coating. If sudden rainfall occurs during installation, take steps to protect the wall surface from water runoff; in winter, adopt appropriate frost‑protection measures in accordance with relevant standards.
